Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the format iPhones use for photos by default. It stores good quality in a small file, but many Windows programs and websites still cannot open it.
Why does the first HEIC file take longer?
The decoder library is downloaded only when the first HEIC or HEIF file arrives. After that it is cached, so the following files convert quickly.
Are my iPhone photos uploaded?
No. The HEIC file is decoded and re-encoded inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server and no copy is kept.
Is the photo rotated correctly?
Yes. The EXIF orientation is applied when the picture is drawn, so the JPG appears the right way up. The output carries no EXIF data at all.
Can I convert a Live Photo?
Only the still image is converted. The short video part of a Live Photo is a separate file and is not part of the HEIC picture.
Can I convert many HEIC files at once?
Yes. Add a whole album; the files are processed one after another and the ZIP button saves all the JPGs together.
