Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. The detail already lost when the JPG was created cannot come back. PNG simply stores the current pixels without adding new compression artefacts.
Will the PNG file be larger?
Usually yes. PNG is lossless, so photos often take several times more space than the JPG they came from. That is the price of a lossless copy.
Can I make the PNG smaller?
Yes. Enter a number of pixels under Longest side before converting; the PNG keeps its proportions and the longer edge ends up at that length. Smaller pictures are never enlarged.
Is the quality slider used for PNG?
No. PNG has no quality setting, so the slider is disabled while PNG is selected. It applies to JPG and WebP only.
Are my files sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs on a canvas inside your browser. Your pictures stay on your device and nothing is uploaded.
Can I convert a whole folder of JPG files?
Select as many files as you like in the picker. They are converted one after another, and Download all (ZIP) saves the results together.
