Pomodoro timer

Alternate focused work with short and long breaks, with your settings and task data kept locally in your browser.

Focus for 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break, and take a longer break after four completed focus sessions.

Focus

Focus sessions: 0

Next: Short break

Space: start or pause · R: reset · S: skip · 1 / 2 / 3: switch modes. Shortcuts are inactive while editing or using a control.

The timer follows the clock and checks elapsed time when you return. Device sleep or browser restrictions may delay the alarm; closing the tab stops it.

Tasks

Choose an active task. Each completed focus session adds one pomodoro to it; skipping adds none.

1–10

Add a task to track your focus sessions.

The finish estimate includes breaks between remaining sessions and assumes you continue without pausing.

    Settings

1–180 minutes, rounded to whole minutes. Empty or invalid values use 25 / 5 / 15. A running timer keeps its current duration; changing a paused mode’s duration resets it.

Completed focus sessions: 2–8; default: 4.

How to plan a focus session

    1. Start with the pomodoro timer’s 25 / 5 / 15 preset: 25 minutes of focus, a 5-minute short break, and a 15-minute long break.
    2. Choose one concrete goal, such as drafting an introduction. Add it as a task, estimate 1–10 pomodoros, and select it as active.
    3. Press Start and work until the session ends. Pause when you need to interrupt your work; Resume continues from the remaining time.
    4. Use the break to stand up, get water, or rest your eyes. After four completed focus sessions, the default cycle offers a longer break.
    5. Review completed sessions and focus minutes below the timer. Adjust durations or automatic starts in Settings to suit your next block of work.

    Ways to use focused intervals

    • Use a study timer to separate reading a chapter from testing what you remember.
    • Reserve one focus interval for writing and another for editing, so you have a clear stopping point.
    • Try the 50 / 10 / 20 preset when a 50 minute pomodoro suits a longer assignment.
    • Choose 90 / 15 / 30 for extended work, with longer breaks between demanding sessions.
    • Give routine administration a defined time slot instead of letting it occupy the whole afternoon.

    Questions about Pomodoro sessions

Can I change the work and break lengths?

Each duration accepts 1–180 minutes, rounded to whole minutes. Choose a long break after 2–8 completed focus sessions. Duration changes leave a running countdown intact; changing the current mode’s duration while paused resets that mode.

How is a task’s finish time estimated?

The estimate uses remaining pomodoros and intervening breaks, assuming no pauses. Starting fresh with three 25-minute sessions and two 5-minute breaks gives 85 minutes. Completed focus sessions advance the active task; skipped sessions do not.

Will the alarm work in a background tab?

This online pomodoro timer calculates remaining time from the clock and checks it when you return. Browser restrictions or device sleep can delay completion alerts. Closing the tab stops the timer, and reloading does not restore a running countdown.

Why can’t I hear the alarm or see a notification?

Enable the alarm, raise its volume, and press Test sound. Check whether the browser tab or device is muted. Notifications need browser permission and may be unavailable on mobile; device settings can also silence them.

Do breaks and focus sessions start automatically?

Both automatic starts are off initially. Enable breaks and focus separately in Settings. After device sleep, an overdue session completes when the page resumes; the timer does not count additional sessions for time spent asleep.

What stays saved after I close the page?

Settings, tasks, and up to 60 days of daily focus history remain in this browser on this device when storage is available. Task data is not uploaded. Clear saved data removes these records and resets the timer; a running countdown is never saved.
